Current Development News:
St. Ann’s Chapel and Commons! The architects project delivery of the construction documents in September, bidding in October, and starting to build in November.
Chapel: The new chapel (at 1,950 square feet) will give us a proper liturgical space for daily Mass, small weddings and funerals, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and Eucharistic adoration. One could envision children's groups or RCIA candidates studying the scriptures here.
Commons: The Sunday liturgy begins with gathering and ends with fellowship. This great hall (approximately 3420 square feet) will offer indoor space to greet those arriving, to form processions, and to have refreshments after Mass. Holy Week's blessing of the palms and the Easter Vigil can begin here. Family-friendly activities, displays of children's visual and performing arts, receptions after First Holy Communion, Confirmation and other events come to mind. The Commons will be a great place to welcome new parishioners and the Midland community.
Family Parlor: A room off the gathering space will be a place for the wedding party to prepare, for families to gather in private before funerals, and for people to hold small meetings. It will overlook the Memorial Garden.
Bathrooms: Adequate bathrooms for the existing church and for the new structure are part of the plan. The current Women's bathroom in the church will be converted for family use.
Memorial Garden: A beautifully landscaped area around the existing bell tower will be the site of a Columbarium, a repository for the ashes of loved ones who have been cremated. Large windows allow one to view the Memorial Garden from the chapel and the Family Room.
The St. Ann Garden (Entry Courtyard): The expansive sidewalk leading up to the Commons from the main parking areas on the south side of the Church will terminate by the St. Ann Garden, where the signature statue of our patron will be located.
Entrance Plaza: The entire area between the Parish Office Building and the School Cafeteria will be developed to create a beautiful and functional place of arrival for our facilities. With an attractive sign on West Texas Avenue, this will be the front entrance to our parish facilities. The driveways will lead up to the porte cochere of the Commons, be useful for school traffic and offer additional handicap parking. All the overhead utilities in this area and in the alley between the existing church and parish office will be buried.
